So…. Christmas is done with. I ate a lot of crap. My skin is gross. I didn’t drink water for several days. But it was good, I had a great time sitting at parents and relaxing, catching up with my friends and family. Didn’t go swimming at all, wasn’t hot enough for that unfortunately. Did do some post-christmas shopping, no overly exciting purchases though, just taking advantage of the sales on sheets and stockings. Woot. When I arrived back yesterday and went to do groceries, I also managed to spend another $50 on MORE homeware. I really don’t need any more dishes or pots or anything for my house. But I couldn’t resist a bargain, 3 serving dishes, a pie dish, a baking dish and a peg bag… not bad for $50 really. My new years resolution has to be stay away from homeware stores I think!! Another one is to eat better, so this morning I went to the market and walah!

Yum!! This was my breakfast:

Today I’m sticking to fresh fruit and water. That’s it. Then tomorrow I’ll start introducing the proteins again. And the caffeine. I really want a coffee right now…. the grinder and beans are taunting me :( The one thing I really need to focus on not eating so much of is sugar. It makes me soooo tired. If I have a chocolate bar I’m falling asleep like before I finish it. Weird, cos sugar is supposed to send you on a high before you crash. But I skip straight to the crash apparently.

Anyways, wish me luck! Hope you all had a good christmas.

Snap!

So I get up this morning after the first night at my mum’s and first thing she says is "we’ve been shopping at the same place!". We had matching tee-shirts…. different colours though at least. Then I was complaining I had no summer shorts or 3/4’s, only jeans, so she gave me a pair of black 3/4 pants she didn’t want anymore. There’s something wrong with that picture…

Merry Christmas to all if I don’t post again before the big event!! The fantastic thing about being on the other side of the world is I get to open my presents before all of you :P (and I’m not above rubbing it in apparently!)

In case you ever needed to know…

It is in fact possible to iron a laminate pocket in case you happen to steal a pocket from work have only the pocket but no laminating machine. My attempt at leaving the house safe while we’re all away is to have a temporary ‘No Junk Mail’ sign on the mailbox… At least I know my insurance policies are up to date, I just switched my contents over to a combined policy with my car, so now I get one big bill every month instead of two little ones :/ Now to find some tape for my sign…..

The best thing EVER happened today!!

So… remember the lawyer I was mildy obsessed with liked a while back? Well…. in the past couple of months I have seen him several times. After a while, and after the ex became just that, I resolved that the next time I saw him I would ask him out for a drink. Then I saw him last week and he was rushing, and it was all too complicated and I didn’t get the chance to ask. And I got the feeling he didn’t want to stop and talk anyway, but I think it must have been the rushing around. Why do I think that? Because today I saw him again (wearing my sweatpants and tee shirt for the walk home - can you say sexy? No? Thought not…) and HE asked ME if I wanted to catch up over a coffee!! You have no idea how great that made me feel… it’s made my entire year! So I gave him my card (cos he loses my number EVERY single time I leave it on his voicemail) and hopefully that will do the trick. Fingers crossed he actually calls!

When stars align

Don’t you love when you leave work, see your bus at the stop across the road, there’s a few people getting on, you start running, the little green man says ‘walk’ just at the right moment, and you make it to the doorway just as the last person is walking away from the driver to their seat? All the stars aligned and I made it to the bus just in the nick of time, and it wasn’t even that full despite the queue which aided my mission by holding things up just long enough. Plus cute boy from work catches the same bus ;) . With his gf >:(. He has a sexy voice. I like when I have to ring him about stuff, hehe.

As I write this I also think it’s rather ironic that I ran that fast just so I could be lazy and catch a bus…

For the record though - I do normally walk to and from work (25 mins downhill there, 35 mins UPhill home), but it’s pissing with rain at the moment, despite that it is supposed to be the middle of summer, longest day is on Friday. I hope it stops soon, my couch is being delivered first thing in the morning. I don’t want a wet couch :/.

Checking in on the list

So. It’s been a while. This is largely owing to the fact that it apparently takes more than three WEEKS to get internet around here. The first company strung us along for a week saying we could get cable at our house, then finally said ‘um… actually, we’re not making any new sales in your area, we’re at capacity’. So… onto the second company. First, we have to sign up to Telecomonoply to get our phone line connected, then you can switch to the alternative provider. Alternative provider took FOUR goes to get my ‘order’ right (why do they call it an order? I get that I’m ‘ordering’ an internet connection, but you normally order books and takeaways, you don’t order in the internet!). Plus they do one.thing.at.a.time, first the internet, then the toll calling, then the actual phoneline itself. So screwed up and very frustrating, but we finally have internet and a phone, yay!

Before I check in on the list, I wanted to also say: it’s official:

  • I am once again single (though desperately longing for a certain lawyer :S). I avoided the now-ex for two weeks after moving out (wasn’t too hard, I was genuinely busy!) and I didn’t miss him at all and wasn’t interested in seeing him again either, so I broke it off. When I went to meet him for a coffee I didn’t actually know that was what I was going to do, but when I asked if he’d learnt to iron his shirts yet (he purchased a whole new wardrobe and I told him he HAD to start ironing his shirts, they weren’t like his old ones where he could sort of get away without ironing) and he said ‘nope’ (but it was ok apparently, he’d only worn them twice, once out of the packet and once after the first wash…. *sigh*). That confirmed it really. It’s a small thing, but a symptom of endemic laziness in all facets of his life. He has no ambition to acheive anything, no desire to make strategic career moves. He has no plans to even make a sideways step into a new job even though he HATES his current job and looks for any excuse to get out of going each day. He may be perfectly content with this lack of drive, desire or ambition to be successful, but I can’t abide by it, I see it as total and utter laziness. So he’s gone.
  • I have a new job! It’s not official in the paycheck sense unfortunately, but aside from that it’s official. Everything pretty much stays the same really, but eventually I get a lot more money. Bureaucracy sucks. But a year of studying the bureacracy of the Nazis has taught me that the bureaucracy rules over each and every bureaucrat. It can make us do anything.
  • I passed my two honours papers, but am adamant that I’m taking a break before studying more (though I may still need to be physically restrained from submitting an online enrolment…). Each year for the past three years has just gotten more and more stressful, especially around Sept-Nov, so I’m just focussing on work and me for a while.

So, now back to list. I am proud to say there are quite a few things to check off!

  • My flatmate and I finished THREE puzzles, in an average of about 2 days each. I wanted to get a christmas one, but the only one I could find was quite pricey and the picture wasn’t that great.
  • Cocktails are a check, I was drinking Margarita’s earlier tonight. These are sticky, sugary, syrupy margarita’s though. It was very basic - 2 ingredients, syrup and tequila, then freeze. I think I need to invest a bit of time into making some decent ones from scratch.
  • Blog more…. well I’m blogging right now, so I’m gonna go ahead and check that one too ;)
  • Sadly, I have not made it to the library, and have been filling my reading hours with trashy novels. Well actually Lesley Pierce novels, which are better than some, but when you get down to the basics, same old story line really. I’m also giving Northern Lights a go, in anticipation of The Golden Compass. I also know there will be two books under the tree for me on christmas day, so the library is on hold for now (those fines are hardly providing an incentive either).
  • I think we have been once… or maybe twice to the vege market. Last week we attempted to go, but after not being able to find a car park anywhere in the vicinity of either of the city markets we gave up and went to the supermarket. They have really good produce at the supermarket here, but it’s horrendously marked up.
  • I have been swimming a total of two times… not quite the once a week I was imagining. I don’t have the greatest togs which makes it a little tricky (a little too flattering in the bust if you get my drift…) and it’s also $5 a pop (damn that new job, no low income benefits!). However I’m on the hunt for new togs and in the new year I’ll get a 12 swim card, which cuts the price back a bit, plus once I’ve paid for it, I’ll have to use it all up!
  • The walking is definitely happening. I walk everyday both too and from work (25 minutes downhill there, 35-40 uphill home), but I need to get out more in the weekend and check out other places.
  • I’ve worked hard on the christmas thing for sure! We have a tree ($35!!! They are $15 in my home city :S) and it looks great (photo to come, silly blogsome won’t let me upload). I keep forgetting to turn the lights on at night though. It doesn’t help that we celebrate christmas in the height of summer and it doesn’t get completely dark till about 9pm or so. I’ve also done all my shopping and got some good presents I think. Almost forgot my BFF, oops! She has three kids though, so I always spend the money on them and get her something small (hand cream and organic chocolate this year).
  • As far as the arts and craft thing goes, that’s been a non-starter really. I never did get around to making anything for the tree (apart from stringing popcorn), and instead spent a small fortune on decorations. I did check out a few of the local high schools and they have a small selection of courses next year (although continuing the sign language classes I started at work would be more fun there) and a craft supplies shop who have a TON of cool courses, but most don’t start again till February.
  • After the fun (heavy sarcasm) of getting the internet connected, I got used to not having internet and haven’t really been using the computer as much once we finally got connected. I also finished all my courses so would be more likely to delete all files relating to essays and assignments than organise them! But I have a whole week at home between heading south for christmas and coming back to work, so it’s on the to-do list for then.
Not bad huh? And I feel good, I feel relaxed after a stressful few months, but am keeping busy too, which is exactly the balance I’m trying to strike to avoid the boredom that leads to study!
