Dear Roommate

Your music sucks. There is no two ways about it. Every single song you listen to is 100% rubbish. Why must you insist on listening to this rubbish so loudly? Night time is quiet time, it’s a time to relax and enjoy some peace. It’s not my problem that you choose to take your English college degree and work in a supermarket at nights. Although, you have never heard of 1984, and I think this says something about your abilities as an English student. I’m quite happy to keep that point open for debate however. What I am not prepared to do is debate the noise level coming from your room. I should not have to ask you every.single.night to please turn your music down because I am going to bed now.

There’s this thing called ‘common sense‘. It’s quite simple really. The term should speak for itself. There’s this other thing called ‘being polite‘ or ‘courteousness‘. Here are some examples in case you were wondering what I mean: In the morning I close the door to the hall before using the coffee grinder so it doesn’t wake you up. I also lock the door when I leave as an overly cautious safety measure. I use my regular toothbrush in the morning when everyone is asleep and the noisy electric one in the evening. It’s the little things that count.

If you are not going to ever put your dishes in the dishwasher, or ever clean the bathroom, or if you continue to insist on filling the freezer to capacity with ice cream (one person does not need 8 different ice cream options, unless they’re in an ice cream shop), can’t you at least use your common sense and be polite when other people are at home and keep your music down?

Seriously, you’re not 13 anymore. Clean your room, do your dishes, clean the bathroom once in a while (you know, the one that you spend more time in than other roommate and myself combined). Learn to be polite. In other words, grow the fuck up already.

Insomniac

Argh. I’ve been awake for almost 2 hours now. It’s 4:48am. The hour from 3:30am till 4:30am went amazingly fast actually, considering I was wide awake the entire time. I’ve been awake so long that I’m really hungry, and there’s no way I can sleep till I have eaten. So here I am, blogging and having breakfast at 4:48am. With the intention of getting back to sleep and then doing this all again at a reasonable hour…. say, 11am. I don’t know why I’m having so much trouble sleeping. First I was kinda thinking about work, and then dreaming about work. Then weird noises woke me up once, but I got back to sleep, then they woke me up again, and I haven’t slept since. Ugh.

I went to the movies last night and saw Juno. It was such an awesome movie! I could have paid for another ticket right then and there and gone back in to watch it again. If that’s not a recommendation, I don’t know what is. Unfortunately it was the last showing for the night, so I couldn’t do that, but I’m totally going again. And I’m totally going to a different movie theatre too.

Remember this dilemma? They tried it on again when we purchased our tickets. Seeing as roommate owed me a movie from the last time, she paid the whole bill this time and they tried to say again that that was one visit and we only got one stamp between us towards our free movie. If we’d paid separately, which we were allowed to do this time because we didn’t book online, we would have got two stamps. The ticket seller was a bit smarter this time at least, and just stamped both damn cards anyways. Then she had to reissue our tickets and swipe my loyalty card at the right time, because once again, my card was right there but they didn’t take it. Not that there is any loyalty left now. Once I get the third damn stamp on my card and get the free movie that has been such a bitch to get (there’s no way I’m giving up now, I’m gonna win this damn fight), I’m finding another theatre.

Seriously, what part of ‘every ticket purchase‘ and ‘per person’ suggests that if only one financial transaction occurs, you only get one stamp? Even if you buy like 20 tickets? So I’m ringing around some other theatres in the chain to find out what their interpretation is later today. Then I’m writing a letter to the manager to complain about their staff and get clarification on the rules. And I’m going to copy it to the Commerce Commission here to get their spin on the whole ticket purchase thing. It is so not right that a family of five who pay in one transaction get one stamp while a group of 5 friends paying separately would get a stamp each. That is just plain stupid. The rules are ‘per person’ or ‘per ticket’. No matter how the actual money changes hand for that ticket, every.ticket.counts.

Anyway… I’m gonna head back to bed with a book and attempt to read my way back to sleep. I’m tempted to take a sleeping pill. But it’s so late now. 5:15am. I don’t really want to sleep till lunchtime, I have things to do. Like bitch and complain ;) And finish furnishing my house! Pic’s to come soon….

Pretty in Pink

So I’m a huge fan of anything pink. I wish my blog could be pink, but silly blogsome have a VERY limited selection of templates, and this is the only one I can live with. There are probably any number of ways of getting a new template that better reflects my style, but I’ve barely ventured past the whole writing a blog entry thing and installing a statcounter. Anyway, back to the topic of pink… while taking part in Shai’s 52 Weeks project, I came across Christina’s blog: eBeautyDaily, and found this totally hot bathroom:

You can read more about the bathroom by clicking on the picture, and don’t forget to check out more of Christina’s eBeautyDaily hints, tips and news.

Then I figured while I’m here promoting Christina, I’d promote a couple of other pink blogs that I love to visit, not only for their cute layouts, but their fantastic content too ;)

First up is Not So Blonde. I’ve been reading her witty and heartfelt blog for quite some time now, in fact her blog was the first I ever read, and I was eventually inspired to create this not-so-pink, not-so-witty, more-angry-than-heartfelt blog! After relocating from her former pink blog and going through a few changes, I’m glad she’s finally settled back into pink:

Next up is a new one on my reading list, and who couldn’t love a blog with ‘pink’ in the name?! Check out My Love is Pink below, Laurie is a budding photographer and takes awesome photos and is brave enough to share some her experimental photos (and I definitely don’t mean that in a ’she’s actually really bad’ way!!):

And last, but certainly not least, we have Friglet. Thankfully she’s got her gorgeous pink layout on at the moment ;) It changes frequently, but they are all awesome. I love the swirly bits at the top of this layout and the coffee cup (not to mention, it’s pink!):

Seeing as I move in a relatively small blog circle, you might already be a regular reader of these blogs, but hopefully with Shai’s fantastic community project, I’ll be extending that circle and sharing my old faves with some new friends. Happy reading!

Yea, I’m the bitch who complains about the trainee’s

So remember the ridiculous amount of cards and pieces of paper it takes for one person to see one movie? Last night I went to see Death at a Funeral - absolutely hilarious btw. So I’d already booked online and took my credit card, my eftpos card, my student ID and my customer card with me. But when we got there they wouldn’t let us pay separately, cos I’d booked online. I was like ‘whatever, I’ve paid separately before’ and they said they’ve been told not to do that anymore. So that’s fine, whatever, I’m not a poor student anymore so I paid for both tickets myself. Then, while in search of food, we remembered we were supposed to pick up a card thing, cos if you go to the movies 3 times in January, you get a free one in Feb. And I also realised I didn’t get the stack of paper I usually get. The guy was so busy telling us, with his I’m-so-righteous attitude, that we had to pay together that he didn’t swipe my customer card or give us the other movie card thing.

So I went back and told him that he’d fucked up, I also threw in that he didn’t give me my eftpos receipt either. Nobody ever wants those things, but they ALWAYS give you them in your bundle of tickets there. He sorted out the customer card thing, and then gave me ONE stupid movie card thing. I said ‘Can we have one for each ticket please?’ and he said no, cos you paid together, it’s only one visit and you only get one card. So I was like ‘what the fuck?’ and said ‘that’s just stupid, we wanted to pay separately, but you wouldn’t let us’, then he starts up the broken record routine ‘it’s one PER VISIT‘, I was getting pissed by this time, I knew it should have been one per ticket. So I was giving examples like ’so if a group of 20 people come in, who don’t book online, and pay separately, they all get one of these cards each? But cos two of us paid together, we don’t? That’s just fucked up!’. By this stage I’d noticed he was a trainee, so I was like thinking ‘damn, he’s following the rules to the damn letter, cos most people would have just given me an extra card to shut me up, even if I wasn’t supposed to get one’. Then I read the fine print and pointed out that it says ‘one per person per visit’ (along with a bunch of other ambiguous rules). Surely one per person means one per ticket? Apparently not, according to Trainee, per visit for some reason supercedes per ticket.

Then I was like ‘I want to talk to a manager’ (after all that fuss I was not backing down and leaving without that second card!!), so she comes along and was all ‘yea, it’s per ticket, duh’. FINALLY!! Someone who knows what they’re talking about. Even then, Trainee argued with the manager and said ‘it’s per visit‘, what the fuck is up with that? Don’t argue with your manager! So we get the extra card. I also complained about the lack of eftpos receipt, that he didn’t swipe my customer card the first time, and that he wouldn’t let us pay separately. She explained the deal with paying separately and I was like that’s fine, I’ll know for next time now. But I got my damn movie card! We’re going to see The Darjeeling Limited and Juno (which comes out in the nick of time on the 31st January), then we get to see 27 Dresses in February for free.

Nutritional Cosmetics

Did you know that the brand name Nutri.metics came from ‘Nutritional Cosmetics’? I didn’t till last night. I kinda always wondered… and of course now I know it’s blindingly obvious. I had a party last night, following on from a series of parties last year. It’s getting expensive, but I’m getting some great buys for the money I spend, so it’s all good. Last year I went to a ‘Hand Spa’ themed party and a ‘Foot Spa’ themed party, so I had a relaxation spa experience last night, which was quite cool. The lady who took them is really good, and she even changed the usualy speal slightly this time, because the last two were practically identical, word-for-word. I spent more than should but I got all of this…

  • Hand creme
  • Body Dew
  • Mineral Masque
  • Nutri-Lips
  • Active deo
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Anti-frizz serum
  • Nutri-clean (for the house)
  • Thai spa massage oil
  • Nail polish
  • More hand creme
  • The biggest size of the original Apricot Oil
  • Honey and Almond Scrub
  • Eye creme

…for an average of $12 per product! Pretty good considering the Apricot Oil alone is $76 at full retail, and a couple of other products on that list are normally $50 each.  And cos I’m a loser with nothing better to do I worked out how much everything would have cost me if I bought it at full RRP: $433.50. And I paid just over $180. Pretty damn good really. Of course no one ever pays full price for anything like this, but that’s still one heck of a saving.

We’ve got a long weekend here this weekend, and I have a few things planned, it’s going to be a busy one: new furniture delivery today, hopefully a long walk up the hill with my cousin, catch up with a friend tonight, vege market, more walking, and a movie tomorrow, and maybe a bbq on monday. And hopefully some down time relaxing at some stage! I also have some work to do before Tuesday, Long weekends are all good, but short weeks means 40 hours of work has to be done within 32, and there’s some urgent stuff I need for first thing Tuesday morning *sigh*

Also - thanks to all who are visiting thank’s to Shai’s 52 weeks of Blogging Community project, my stats have gone WAY up and I’ve been visiting a few cool new blogs. Keep dropping by, I’ve been working hard, and succeeding, at blogging more regularly lately. And Shai’s ongoing project will keep things ticking along too I’m sure :)

Ah well, looks like I’m following the lead of you two

1. At what age do you wish to marry?
Sometime this century would be nice…. where are you oh husband-to-be!?!

2. What color do you like most?
Pink!! Definitely a pink fan, also yellow and purple.

3. Where is the place that you want to go the most?
Anywhere that isn’t here will do. I never left the very small country I live in, so I’m not choosy at this stage. I’ll probably tag along with the parents on their next trip to Europe, maybe stop by Canada or the US on the way home by myself. I would also like to be able to treat myself to a little jaunt to the islands, one of those 5 night package deal type things before the year is out.

4. Which part of you do you hate the most?
Pretty much everything, from looks right through to personality! This is the reason I avoid finding said husband from Q1, because a relationship won’t work til I like at least something about myself.

5. When you encounter a sad moment, what would you do?
Cry. I cry at the drop of a hat. I can imagine something bad happening and cry. I cried the whole way through A Walk to Remember the other night. But then, who wouldn’t…

6. What are you afraid to lose the most?
My mind. I fear it is too late already.

7. If you win $1 million, what would you do?
Invest it all and keep working till the investments start paying off.

8. What’s your wish for the year ahead?
Lose enough weight to combat issues from Q4 and Q1.

9. How did you celebrate the New Year?
I went to a movie (Into the Wild), then came home to a couple of glasses of wine and went to bed to read a book.

10. Till now, what is the moment that you regret the most?
I don’t believe in regrets, but in hindsight I wished I’d been a little more savvy with my money when I worked before going to University. I could have bought a house and had it earning money for me, or not borrowed so much. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending to anyone who is unsure of their life to take a break before going to University, but I would advise them to save some money while they work.

11. Which type of person do you hate the most?
Stupid people who don’t take just one damn second to think before acting or speaking. And bad drivers.

12. What is your ambition?
Option A: To succeed in my career path to management level, and find someone even more ambitious again to live my life with. Option B: Get married and have kids and stay on a more static career path. I feel like I have to choose between one or the other because it’s too late. But who knows, maybe option C will actually happen: Marry rich and be a SAHM (when the nanny isn’t working of course) living a life of luxury.

13. If you had one wish what would you wish for?
What’s the difference between this wish and the wish for this year? I wish I could lose the weight and keep it off with minimal effort. However, it’s going to be a long hard road for the rest of my life. Wishes don’t come true.

100 million dollars. hey, it’s selfserving but honest! 14. Name one of your body part your hubby or boyfriend tells you he adores:
Well seeing as I’m single, I’m guessing the answer is nothing about is adorable. Being fat at least has the advantage of having big boobs though. They seem to attract the guys. All the wrong sorts of guys though :S They’ve also been sore as hell for the past 2 weeks. (No, I’m not pregnant).

15. What is the best gift you can give someone this year?
My heart. (Sorry Kari! I’m keeping your answer)

16. List two of your Top Ten New Year’s Resolutions.
Be fitter and healthier. Work on learning to relax and develop personally rather than academically.

17. What do you need to do this year in order for you to be happier in life?
Find that rich husband.

18. What are the Top 2 things that you are most thankful for the year 2007 that made you even more happier for 2008?
My job - so fantastic to be on a regular salary after 3 years of living on borrowed money and feeling like a charity case. Also that I made it through 2007 and came out alive and finally learnt my lesson: take it easy, slow down and relax.

19. What was the best lesson you learned in 2007 (be specific)?
See above. That’s fairly specific.

20. In this very moment, are you doing what you thought you’d be doing at this stage in your life?
Yes, I’ve exceeded my own career expectations thus far. No, I thought I’d be married or at least living with a long term partner by this stage.

So much for NOT spending money I don’t have…

So I just dropped by the furniture store, just to have a look around, get some ideas… 20 minutes later I have purchased 2 bedside cabinets, a bookcase and a coffee table. All of which went onto a new credit card that I applied for and got approved for right then and there. They also made a point of showing me how much available credit I still have to spend on that card. Hint hint. Ah well, this was the last of the furniture I needed, and I was planning on buying it in the next couple of months anyways. I’ve got 3 months to pay it off before the exorbitant interest rates hit! Pictures to come… delivery isn’t till next Sat for the bookcase and coffee table, and the bedsides are still on a ship somewhere across the ocean. And when that card arrives in the mail, I’m chopping it in half!!

Back to the coal face

Argh, I cannot believe that tomorrow morning I have to get up, get organised with my various clothing and shoe combos, and go to work. It’s been a fantastic two weeks off, and has even felt like longer! But I know by the end of tomorrow it will be like I never had a holiday. It always amazes me how fast that feeling of rest and relaxation goes away. However I’m still committed to a lack of commitment to any major projects outside of work, such as a part time Honours degree! I have however filled out the form for a Pilates class at a not-so-local (as in have to drive there in peak hour traffic) high school. And another school have Microsoft Access one-day courses which I will sign up and get work to pay for, because I have been using Access at work a bit but kinda skipped those classes when I was getting my business diploma! And I really want to do a craft type course, like a patchwork class, but they are super expensive, then the fabrics are another huge cost again, plus if I do one that require machine sewing, then I’d have to buy a sewing machine! All up that would be one seriously expensive quilt, so we’ll see about that one…. I have a little issue with money at the moment, as in I’m spending my WHOLE paycheck every fortnight and barely scraping through the last couple of days. I got some back pay and a study bonus towards the end of last year and spent the lot setting up my new house, but I haven’t quite got off the spending buzz yet, so I need to slow things down and make more payments on the credit card than purchases. My roommate and I just did the groceries for the week (after spending money all day in town on things we don’t need!). We had all the veges we needed, but NO meat at all. We planned out 7 meals and what we needed for them, and a couple of other miscellaneous things we needed (ice cream is a necessity, duh!), and ended up only spending half of what we thought we might need! So that eases things off for now. Would be great if we could do that every week, but we’re both quite creative in the kitchen and would rather spend a bit extra on some good quality ingredients and have delicious meals. Hope all is well out there with everyone else :) ~N

Happy New Year!

So it was a quiet night for me. I went to see Into the Wild, after getting given the soundtrack largely written and performed by Eddie Vedder. It was a great movie, though quite long. One of the reasons I went on new years eve, besides having no better plans, was cos it was the last showing, so I’m glad i made it! What I can’t understand is how it takes 4 cards and 2 pieces of paper to see a movie. I booked online so they swiped my credit card to find my booking, as well as taking the piece of paper I printed. Then they wanted my student ID. Then I gave them the second piece of paper which got me $5 off. Then I paid for it with my eftpos card, and swiped my customer card through as well, despite giving them the number online already. Then in return I got three more pieces of paper. Receipt, points update on the customer card, and finally, the actual movie ticket. Seriously. All that for a movie that cost $7.80.
