The one where you get to hear my voice.

This week’s task for Shai’s 52WoC project was to create a voice post… I was little anxious about this. For a start, I feel silly talking when noone else is around to hear me. Crazy, I know! But it’s weird talking to yourself (unless it’s swearing like a sailor cos something broke or whatever). So it was quite cool to push those boundaries a bit and do something a little different. It was great to see people doing video posts too! That would be pushing more boundaries, the technological ability boundaries ;) . Hope you all enjoy hearing my voice…

Update: Argh, this stupid thing keeps deleting the html code for the embedded player, so you’re all just going to have to visit the link above. Sorry!

The weekend from hell

So I think bullet points are called for, partly cos I want to spend as little time as possible thinking about it, and because it would also be very long-winded if I told the tale in full! So I was heading away for 4 days, three nights. Two days of work, two days of pleasure. Here’s how it went down:

  • Got up too late on Thursday morning, rushed around, forgot the soap, cleanser and razor, all that shower stuff (had already packed make-up etc. thank goodness, and had planned on using hotel shampoo anyway)
  • Moved the maps of NP (destination) off my work folder so I could take the folder with me, and thus the maps were left at home
  • Arrived ok, and made it through day one, then met a friend for a drink after the work stuff
  • On Friday the coffee was rubbish at the hotel, then at the coffee shop next to the hotel, was not impressed
  • Went to buy toothpaste and gum and a very rude lady pushed in front me saying ‘hope you don’t mind, I just have to pay’. I don’t take crap like that so I of course told her that actually I do mind very much, the back of the queue is that way and you’re not the only person in a rush. She had the tenacity to give me a dirty look, hmph!
  • Made it through day two of the work, and managed to combat a few attacks from the people we met with
  • Friday night made it to the hotel, did some shopping, watched a movie in bed Got woken up at 12pm by the alarm, set on it’s default alarm time, then again at 4am by some people who were being very rude, talking loudly and smoking outside. My friend couldn’t believe that I actually told them to "please shut up, it’s 4am"
  • Saturday went shopping and looked around, very few sights to see and no way to get around other than my legs
  • Shops all closed at 1pm so I went to a movie. Movie was crap, as was the popcorn and lollies
  • Attempted to have dinner, first place offered me a seat at the bar (I have a thing about bar stools, I hate them and refuse to use them), second place thought my booking was under the name ‘One’. Apparently people aren’t supposed to dine out alone
  • Met a friend for a very brief drink before he buggered off home, after making me wait half an hour for him to get there
  • Sunday night got woken at 11:30 with a call from the lawyer (to tell me he bought me some yummy bath stuff! awww), then 5am by the cops chasing someone around, then the rain started and I pretty much didn’t sleep any more
  • Got up, had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and wasn’t really interested in spending the day outside in the torrential rain so went straight the airport
  • Spent five hours reading and drinking more crap coffee and eating crap food (first crap food of the trip though, that was the only good thing, service and coffee were crap and overpriced, but the food was really good!)
  • Got home eventually, then new flatmate started moving in at around 8pm, had to rearrange entire lounge for her giant ugly couch
  • Bailed after that and went to the lawyers house for two days
  • Spent the day yesterday out of town on more work stuff (had dinner with parents, so that was good at least!)
  • Came home to messy house
  • Crap day at work today, attempted to spend tonight at lawyers, but he was busy doing lawyer stuff late at work so came home and cleaned and put away new flatmates stuff because I hated the clutter so much, also finished rearranging furniture, including shifting bookcase to my room, which is right where I don’t want it to be.

So now I’m totally tearing my hair out and resisting the urge to scream. Thank goodness sane normal flatmate is finally home from Canada! And she bought me the cutest little Eeyore travel cushion/pillow thing. I also applied for a really good job that is maybe a little out of my league, but I worked really hard on the cover letter and will be really pleased if I get an interview at the very least.

The lawyer goes overseas for 6 weeks soon… little worried about how I’m going to cope on top of all the stress of work and home. I’m doing a very good job of not liking him, but I’ve become a little reliant on him with everything that’s going on and he is letting me do this, encouraging it even. Will not dwell on that any further. More exciting posts to come, I promise! I have a ton of photo’s from NP which show it’s not all bad, and I still have a task to do for Kari’s challenge. I have all the pic’s, just need to create the post.
