Project Elephant complete!
Here we are, as promised, my latest quilting project:
Click on the picture above to see more angles on Flickr, including his cute little tail!
He turned out really well, it was a tough class, not only was I learning a new quilting technique, but it was very random. I don’t much like random, I preferred the class where everything had to be 2.5" and cut straight as an arrow. But look how that ended up, I have a perfect quilt top, but never got around to finishing it! I will get back onto that, probably after the semester finishes seeing as I’m back to studying. Also before I get back to the quilt I’m going to make a second one for flatmate’s 21st birthday next month. That will be fun… trying to do it in secret! Sewing isn’t exactly quiet… I’m hoping to get the two sides quilted before I go home at the end of the month so I can use my mums machine to do the embroidery stitching, I’m sure her machine will have a much larger range than mine. I will do K’s in more of an indian style, lots of deep reds and gold, and I’ll embellish a lot more. I like the simplistic look for mine, eyes and a tail were of course essential, but I didn’t feel the need for any more glitz and glamour.
Also, a HUGE thanks to Kari, I won the Flickr Pro prize she offered in her competition, and now that I have the account, I will be putting WAY more pictures up. I think I could only have like 2 sets on a the free version, but now I can organise them much better I will get more up, starting with old ones that I’d like to share, then I’ll get out the camera more often and get some new pics

Argh I just love this! Do you have an actual pattern for it or did you just learn in class as you went along? If you have a pattern / instructions is it possible to get a copy so I can see if I can work one out? I want to make one sooooo bad!!

How cute is that elephant? I have a few elephant softy patterns stashed in my ‘Craft PDFs’ folder but I’m yet to make any of them. I’m also not sure I could handle the random quilting thing as my brain thrives on order and symmetry but it sure looks great on your elephant.
Thanks! I couldn’t resist signing up to the class when I saw him in the shop way back at the start of the year, I paid for it way back in January or February. I didn’t really enjoy the randomness to begin with either, especially after taking the class where everything had to be just so (loved that one!). The first side of the elephant I planned carefully and made sure to alternate the fabrics and the embroidery stitching colours (you can’t really see but I used that thread that changes colours, and I used two different colour schemes of it too), then the second side was such a rush that I just grabbed randomly, and had my foot flat to the ground getting the embroidery done. It really surpised me, I thought it would be quite obvious, but you’d never know the difference!

Oh my gosh the elephant is soooo cute! Well done! I’m pleased to hear you are enjoying your new Pro Account, and I look forward to seeing more photos!
Thanks! He is totally cute, I love how well it worked out, cept one of his eyes is a little too crooked lol, I think I’ll fix that up sometime.

WOW this elephant is beyond amazing! You should be so very proud of yourself!
Thanks for stopping by, I am very proud of him! He turned out so well, I can’t wait to make another one. The lady that took the class said we’d never want to again after messing around with all the fiddly sewing to put him together, but they are so cool that it’s totally worth the effort.
