Looooong overdue!!

So…. have you all been waiting in anticipation of an update on the lawyer? or the asshat flatmate? Well here it is…

The Lawyer

Following on from successful dinner number one, there have been two more. The third one wasn’t entirely planned. We were supposed to have a ‘chat’, which we did. Then he got me drunk and cooked me dinner (in that order!) and I stayed over. On a school night! Monday morning was a little rough to say the least and going to see Cats for a friends birthday on Tuesday didn’t help the fatigue any… it’s been a long week, thank goodness it’s a long weekend and I get Monday off work.

And the chat? Relatively straightforward, it went something like this:

Him "I don’t want a relationship"

Me "I want to get married and have babies, but that ain’t happening anytime soon, so until either of us finds someone more appropriate, what’s wrong with this?"

Him *eventual, though concerned agreement*

He bought up the age thing again. I really can’t understand what the problem is, it’s a total non-issue for me. Oh yea, another conversation:

Him "You’re 26 right?"

Me " um…. ask me again in a couple of months"

Him "oh crap, it’s even worse than I thought!"

tehehe!

The Asshat

Has continued with the asshat activities. In the weekend she cleaned the windowsill in the bathroom. Just the windowsill. Not the basin or the shower or the stuff we actually use. Just the windowsill. So last night we had a ‘chat’ which was largely me saying ‘you do NOTHING, you’ve never cleaned the toilet, you spend an hour in the bathroom at a time, we never know if you’re even home or not because your bedroom door is always closed’. Her justification? She works nights so it’s hard. And yep, I can agree it’s hard on the social front, but it’s not hard on the cleaning front. Some days she doesn’t start work till 5pm, giving her ALL day to clean something. She was also home for the full two days before our last house inspection and she did nothing in those two days. Oh, and she also cleaned the tap over the basin at the same time as the windowsill. You can just imagine my reaction to that!

Anyway, she asked if I wanted her to move out, and I said it’s up to her, she’s welcome to say but we’d need to see a 100% improvement. She doesn’t feel that’s possible, especially because she is going back to studying this semester. Me and other flatmate think this is crap, I have a full time job and will also be studying this semester, flatmate has two jobs and studys full time. Asshat will still be the one who has the least commitments and will spend the most time at home. She also mentioned money and that it was too expensive for her. I cannot get my head around this, she is paying exactly the same as she has paid for the past 3 years in the hostel. Plus her ‘going back to study’ is only 1-2 papers, so she could still work exactly the same hours, she just needs to stop being so lazy and spend a couple of hours studying each day instead of spending god knows how many hours staring at her computer screen watching dvd’s and movies and playing stupid time-wasting games.

She is signed up till November here, but I said 3 weeks would be a reasonable length of notice to give if she decides to move out (that’s standard if you’re not on a fixed term lease here), we can trade one person on the lease, so long as I’m here till November. So I’m kinda glad that it’s up to her. Obviously it’s far more ideal if she moves out, especially seeing as she doesn’t seem prepared to make any further effort (though she did clean the bathroom today! First time in 6 mths), but I’m leaving it up to her. The only annoying thing is that other flatmate leaves for 3 weeks in Canada in the weekend, so looking for a new flatmate could be problematic. We’ve agreed that I will look for someone and if I find someone who seems good, we will make it conditional on her meeting them and giving the final go ahead when she gets back. I’m the fussier one and know what I want in a flatmate, so it will kinda work out well that I do all the interviewing and stuff.

Other stuff…

So… while things with the lawyer are great, and the flat situation which I was really hating on before yesterday is getting resolved, work still sucks big time. I’m going to spend one of the long weekend days cleaning up my CV and writing job applications. I’m a little worried that I’m not going to be able to find something that will pay well enough, plus I’m up for a pay review this week which will add a few more $$ to the weekly paycheck making the gap even bigger again. But I think it has to be done, I’m just not going where I want to with this role.

So now you’re all caught up I’m going in search of a hot drink, then going to play my own time wasting game ;)

Good news and more good news!

This time yesterday I was checked into my room at the hospital and the nurse was running around like a mad-woman, I don’t think she knew what she was doing! Finally got down to surgery at about 2:30pm. They were all waiting and waiting and waiting for me. That nurse? Forgot to take me down to theatre after they rang and told her they were ready. Tells you how great she is… Luckily when I woke up shifts had changed and we had a much better nurse who was very nice and clearly knew a lot more about what she was doing, plus she had a new nurse following her round (new to the hospital, not to nursing!) so I had two of them taking care of me.

Everything is fine, now at least. There was endometriosis in three places and they cut it all out. I have pics if anyone wants to see the before and after of my insides! Ew ;) So I’m feeling fine, they pump you full of some gas to inflate the area, and even though they deflate you, apparently some of that gas likes to travel to your shoulders, so a little sore there. Plus I had to sleep sitting up first last night cos when I lay down I could breathe for the pain under my ribcage. More of that gas apparently. Was wondering why I felt a little sore at the site of the actual surgery just now, then I realised I hadn’t taken meds in about 5-6 hours haha. Silly me. So apart from that, and moving around very slowly, things are good. All sorted now I hope! Thank you for all your support, best wishes and comments, I’m so glad that they found something. No guarantees, but things should get a whole lot better soon and this fatigue that has plagued me for soooo long should go away.

And, of course, some of you are waiting to hear about my Saturday night. It was great! He was the perfect gentlemen (once he finished playing around with his very expensive new speakers that he’d been working on all day. They are cooler than his car apparently. His car is a Porchse!). He had dinner in the oven (roast chicken!) and kept me topped up on wine. He even had cheese and crackers ready, how many guys would think of that?! We watched a couple of movies (would highly recommend Life as a House and Fallen if you haven’t seen them already). It was very lovely and he was very concerned that I was having surgery in two days time. I was very tired and a little distracted so I explained why. Plus he plays a role in the industry so he knows procedures and ailments, and it was good to name drop my surgeon. He hadn’t heard of him, which is a good thing as he deals with the dodgy ones!

It gets even better too. He text me last night to say that he hoped surgery went well and telling me to take care etc. How sweet! I would not have expected that from him at all a couple of months ago. He was the only person to text in fact, most people had sent well-wishes in advance and I said I’d catch up with them today. But still, the one and only text I get on the day was from him. Yes, copious amounts of undeserved swooning… I’ll blame the anaesthetic ;)

Breaking the drought

Hey! I’m back! At last, it’s been a while, I just haven’t found anything inspiring to write about (not that I’m ever particularly inspiring/inspired!). However, I’ve had a good couple of days. I’ll share once the bitching part of this post has ended. I just arrived home from 3 nights away and found the mail on my bed. Power bill, high, and also included a letter which basically said ‘we advise you to stay on your same plan because we don’t know enough about you’. Thanks for the oh so helpful info. Next up, a new credit card. Issue date: beginning of January. How the heck did it take so long to get to me?! There was no date on the letter (isn’t that like the first rule of letter writing? Write. The. Date.) and the previous card was issued not two weeks before the last one. Plus they said my old card would expire in a couple of weeks. Is that a couple of weeks after the issue date or a couple of weeks from the day the mail arrived?! Cos I’ve been using that card with no problems. WeIrD. I’m ringing them tomoro to say ‘wtf?!’. Then right after that I’m ringing my parents health insurance company. I rang with a simple query, mostly unrelated to my current policy, and gave them my address for some one-off info to be sent. Today I find they have sent me a huge package of information addressed to my Dad. I never said ‘update my details’. I certainly never said ‘update my whole family’s details, even though they live in another city and haven’t moved house in ten years’. *sigh*. How can all three pieces of mail cause me to waste so much time sorting out other people’s BS mistakes?!?! At least it will fill in the morning at work tomorrow!

Now, onto the great weekend. I headed south for work on Friday, turns out it was kind of a waste of time for the organisation because my colleague went early and did almost everything! Nevermind, I got to meet an awesome friend of mine, finally. He’s the one who always sends me stuff and remembers my birthday. You know the one, I sent him some home baking a while back. So N and I went out for dinner and it was like we had met already in the past, cos he was so familiar. We’ve spent heaps of time chatting on msn and the phone, and using webcams, so it was totally cool. Right before he was due to show up I started getting a little nervous and thinking ‘omg, what if I have NOTHING to say?!’. Turns out I couldn’t shut up (thanks to the house sav blanc no doubt!) and I probably told him stuff he’s heard a hundred times before, but he’d listen as if it was the first time. Then he took me to the airport (arrived 15 mins before the plane was due to take off! I was a little panicked lol) and I went to my next destination (home city). Then a little later I was thinking ‘hmm… I’m sure N’s birthday is in March, argh, I hope I haven’t missed it AGAIN!’. Checked on Facebook. Sure enough, 6 March, totally missed it. I’m the worst friend ever! He paid for dinner and everything and I couldn’t even remember to say ‘happy birthday’. I suck. So I emailed him apologising profusely and he said ‘it’s ok, I had some easter eggs in the car that I clean forgot to give you at the airport’. Uh, thanks, but that doesn’t make me feel better!! He bought me dinner AND easter eggs and I didn’t even wish him a late happy birthday…. *sigh*. I’m a disorganised wreck. This is just one example, I also left half of what I needed back here. I had to race out to the gas station first thing Saturday morning (in my mum’s Merc) to buy tampons. See? Disorganised wreck.

Anyhoo, onto home city, and it was so great to catch up with my friend and her kids. I did remember their birthdays and gave one of the girls a cute little handbag (totally regifted from my grandma, it’s cute for 5 yo’s, not 25 yo’s ;) ) and a necklace, then took my friend out to see The Other Boleyn Girl. Was actually pretty well done, with all the costumes and accents and stuff, but not anything to rave about overall. I also bought the kids easter eggs, and when I was passing the lotto kiosk I grabbed a ticket on the way through. Checked it this morning while I was passing by another kiosk with my mum. Turns out I won!!! Not 1st division, I’m far from a millionaire, but a nice little bonus to stash in the bank for a rainy day! Lucky my bank is open on Sunday’s in the mall so I walked 20 metres from the kiosk to the bank and put most of it right into my account. So did a little more shopping than anticipated, and paid for the coffee seeing as I couldn’t very well feign poverty. Made it home tonight, eventually, cursed the mail, wrote this, now I’m off to bed. I’ve got just enough time to get in 8 hours sleep. Night!

Musak

Back when I was at primary school I learnt to play the violin for a year, but didn’t really get into that, so I picked up the clarinet instead. I ended up having lessons and playing in orchestra’s for about 6 or 7 years after that, but eventually dropped it half way through high school. I had much more important things to worry about, like who my friends were and how cool I was. Ditching the instrument didn’t help, I was still a geek. Still am in fact, but much prouder of it these days ;) . Anyway, in the past 10 years I’ve picked up my instrument about as many times as there are fingers on one hand. Not many. When I returned home this weekend I decided to dig it out and have a go. I just had a half hour refresher, and even managed to get through the first few lines of Moon River, Unchained Melody, Silent Night and a few other tunes. It was tough starting off, but it was amazing how quickly my instincts kicked in and my fingers just knew what holes to cover and open as I read over the notes. I’ve always wanted to learn piano, and am still determined that I will one day. The local high schools here offer interest classes in the evening, so I might take that up later in the year. I’ll need to invest in a keyboard at the very least, but I’d also like to spend more time with the clarinet, learning the notes again etc., before starting anything new.

What about you? Do you play as well as Bach and Mozart? Or are you tone deaf?
Leave me a comment and let me know whether or not you play/ed and what instrument.

I tried to set up a poll, for the Week 6 challenge, but blogsome doesn’t like the html code I’m trying to insert :(

Pretty in Pink

So I’m a huge fan of anything pink. I wish my blog could be pink, but silly blogsome have a VERY limited selection of templates, and this is the only one I can live with. There are probably any number of ways of getting a new template that better reflects my style, but I’ve barely ventured past the whole writing a blog entry thing and installing a statcounter. Anyway, back to the topic of pink… while taking part in Shai’s 52 Weeks project, I came across Christina’s blog: eBeautyDaily, and found this totally hot bathroom:

You can read more about the bathroom by clicking on the picture, and don’t forget to check out more of Christina’s eBeautyDaily hints, tips and news.

Then I figured while I’m here promoting Christina, I’d promote a couple of other pink blogs that I love to visit, not only for their cute layouts, but their fantastic content too ;)

First up is Not So Blonde. I’ve been reading her witty and heartfelt blog for quite some time now, in fact her blog was the first I ever read, and I was eventually inspired to create this not-so-pink, not-so-witty, more-angry-than-heartfelt blog! After relocating from her former pink blog and going through a few changes, I’m glad she’s finally settled back into pink:

Next up is a new one on my reading list, and who couldn’t love a blog with ‘pink’ in the name?! Check out My Love is Pink below, Laurie is a budding photographer and takes awesome photos and is brave enough to share some her experimental photos (and I definitely don’t mean that in a ’she’s actually really bad’ way!!):

And last, but certainly not least, we have Friglet. Thankfully she’s got her gorgeous pink layout on at the moment ;) It changes frequently, but they are all awesome. I love the swirly bits at the top of this layout and the coffee cup (not to mention, it’s pink!):

Seeing as I move in a relatively small blog circle, you might already be a regular reader of these blogs, but hopefully with Shai’s fantastic community project, I’ll be extending that circle and sharing my old faves with some new friends. Happy reading!

Checking in on the list

So. It’s been a while. This is largely owing to the fact that it apparently takes more than three WEEKS to get internet around here. The first company strung us along for a week saying we could get cable at our house, then finally said ‘um… actually, we’re not making any new sales in your area, we’re at capacity’. So… onto the second company. First, we have to sign up to Telecomonoply to get our phone line connected, then you can switch to the alternative provider. Alternative provider took FOUR goes to get my ‘order’ right (why do they call it an order? I get that I’m ‘ordering’ an internet connection, but you normally order books and takeaways, you don’t order in the internet!). Plus they do one.thing.at.a.time, first the internet, then the toll calling, then the actual phoneline itself. So screwed up and very frustrating, but we finally have internet and a phone, yay!

Before I check in on the list, I wanted to also say: it’s official:

  • I am once again single (though desperately longing for a certain lawyer :S). I avoided the now-ex for two weeks after moving out (wasn’t too hard, I was genuinely busy!) and I didn’t miss him at all and wasn’t interested in seeing him again either, so I broke it off. When I went to meet him for a coffee I didn’t actually know that was what I was going to do, but when I asked if he’d learnt to iron his shirts yet (he purchased a whole new wardrobe and I told him he HAD to start ironing his shirts, they weren’t like his old ones where he could sort of get away without ironing) and he said ‘nope’ (but it was ok apparently, he’d only worn them twice, once out of the packet and once after the first wash…. *sigh*). That confirmed it really. It’s a small thing, but a symptom of endemic laziness in all facets of his life. He has no ambition to acheive anything, no desire to make strategic career moves. He has no plans to even make a sideways step into a new job even though he HATES his current job and looks for any excuse to get out of going each day. He may be perfectly content with this lack of drive, desire or ambition to be successful, but I can’t abide by it, I see it as total and utter laziness. So he’s gone.
  • I have a new job! It’s not official in the paycheck sense unfortunately, but aside from that it’s official. Everything pretty much stays the same really, but eventually I get a lot more money. Bureaucracy sucks. But a year of studying the bureacracy of the Nazis has taught me that the bureaucracy rules over each and every bureaucrat. It can make us do anything.
  • I passed my two honours papers, but am adamant that I’m taking a break before studying more (though I may still need to be physically restrained from submitting an online enrolment…). Each year for the past three years has just gotten more and more stressful, especially around Sept-Nov, so I’m just focussing on work and me for a while.

So, now back to list. I am proud to say there are quite a few things to check off!

  • My flatmate and I finished THREE puzzles, in an average of about 2 days each. I wanted to get a christmas one, but the only one I could find was quite pricey and the picture wasn’t that great.
  • Cocktails are a check, I was drinking Margarita’s earlier tonight. These are sticky, sugary, syrupy margarita’s though. It was very basic - 2 ingredients, syrup and tequila, then freeze. I think I need to invest a bit of time into making some decent ones from scratch.
  • Blog more…. well I’m blogging right now, so I’m gonna go ahead and check that one too ;)
  • Sadly, I have not made it to the library, and have been filling my reading hours with trashy novels. Well actually Lesley Pierce novels, which are better than some, but when you get down to the basics, same old story line really. I’m also giving Northern Lights a go, in anticipation of The Golden Compass. I also know there will be two books under the tree for me on christmas day, so the library is on hold for now (those fines are hardly providing an incentive either).
  • I think we have been once… or maybe twice to the vege market. Last week we attempted to go, but after not being able to find a car park anywhere in the vicinity of either of the city markets we gave up and went to the supermarket. They have really good produce at the supermarket here, but it’s horrendously marked up.
  • I have been swimming a total of two times… not quite the once a week I was imagining. I don’t have the greatest togs which makes it a little tricky (a little too flattering in the bust if you get my drift…) and it’s also $5 a pop (damn that new job, no low income benefits!). However I’m on the hunt for new togs and in the new year I’ll get a 12 swim card, which cuts the price back a bit, plus once I’ve paid for it, I’ll have to use it all up!
  • The walking is definitely happening. I walk everyday both too and from work (25 minutes downhill there, 35-40 uphill home), but I need to get out more in the weekend and check out other places.
  • I’ve worked hard on the christmas thing for sure! We have a tree ($35!!! They are $15 in my home city :S) and it looks great (photo to come, silly blogsome won’t let me upload). I keep forgetting to turn the lights on at night though. It doesn’t help that we celebrate christmas in the height of summer and it doesn’t get completely dark till about 9pm or so. I’ve also done all my shopping and got some good presents I think. Almost forgot my BFF, oops! She has three kids though, so I always spend the money on them and get her something small (hand cream and organic chocolate this year).
  • As far as the arts and craft thing goes, that’s been a non-starter really. I never did get around to making anything for the tree (apart from stringing popcorn), and instead spent a small fortune on decorations. I did check out a few of the local high schools and they have a small selection of courses next year (although continuing the sign language classes I started at work would be more fun there) and a craft supplies shop who have a TON of cool courses, but most don’t start again till February.
  • After the fun (heavy sarcasm) of getting the internet connected, I got used to not having internet and haven’t really been using the computer as much once we finally got connected. I also finished all my courses so would be more likely to delete all files relating to essays and assignments than organise them! But I have a whole week at home between heading south for christmas and coming back to work, so it’s on the to-do list for then.
Not bad huh? And I feel good, I feel relaxed after a stressful few months, but am keeping busy too, which is exactly the balance I’m trying to strike to avoid the boredom that leads to study!

Just thinking out loud

—————-
Now playing: Athlete - Hurricane
via FoxyTunes

Just wanted to note down a few of the things I’d like to do with my newfound time:

  • A jigsaw puzzle. I noticed my mum had a few last time I was there, one still in it’s plastic (for ease of travelling!) so I must remember to sneak one into my bag when I down there next weekend.
  • Make cocktails. This mail order catalogue has mojito and margarita mixes to make your own cocktails, and we have a nice sunny deck on which to enjoy them at the new place (we’re heading into summer here).
  • Blog more! And also look into setting up a decent blog space, with a design more suited to my personality.
  • Spend more time at the library (starting with paying my fines). Now is a good time to try out a few new authors, suggestions welcome.
  • Go to the fruit and vege market every sunday. One of my flatmates and I have similar tastes in food, and we’re both good cooks, so we will cook together most of the time probably, she will definitely encourage the weekly market visits.
  • Go swimming. At least once a week. I love swimming, I went twice this time last year and wondered why the heck I’d waited so long to try it out again. Now another year has passed by…
  • Explore more of the bush walks in the central part of the city. Our house is particularly well placed for this, plenty of good walks nearby.
  • Have a really festive christmas! By this I mean not just rush off a couple of christmas cards and show up at mum’s on christmas eve. I want a christmas tree of my own, a real one! I really want to get into the spirit of it, like when I was little, I’ll be taking a leaf out of your book, because I love the way in which you celebrate every holiday.
  • Do more arty/crafty things again, again my flatmate is into similar things. I think our first project is making wedding invites for her cousin. I feel some homemade christmas decorations coming on too, I’ve got a whole tree to decorate!
  • Organise all my files on the computer. I have a brand new HUGE HDD, and have practically ignored it’s existence thus far, time to organise and rearrange and get everything in the one place. When I was looking for my last essay I found 3 copies that only had 2500 words, I was sure I’d written 3600! Sure enough, I had, I found it eventually.
I think that’s enough to get started… I really want to savour all this extra time and learn to relax, instead of wasting it watching crap tv or eating myself into an even more unhealthy state than currently. If I have an assignment to write, I can procrastinate like no other. However all those procrastination activities bore me to tears if it’s not a ‘naughty’ thing to be doing. If there’s no pressure to do anything else, I just get bored.

October 1, 2007

The weekends are good…

… but the weeks aren’t so great…

I’ve been here for a month. And he’s talking about it being a permanent move. I’ve started daily reminders of when I’m leaving, just to remind him this is a temporary solution!! I’m ready for my own space again. It’s way too soon for a permanent move. But overall, living with a bf again is going well. We have really good weekends together, I’m just not a morning person and for the most part I hate my job. And the fact that I have several essays to write and an exam to sit in the next month. And that I’m broke. I hate waking up to mess in the kitchen and I hate coming home and cooking in a messy kitchen. I really think the kitchen biggest issue to my general aggravated feelings during the week! Need to work on the whole house-training thing lol…

So I’m on leave all week from work, which means I can catch up on all my blog reading (duh! what else would study week be for…). So far the hiding the ’secret pleasure’ from bf is going well. He’s oblivious to m.y s.pace, be.bo, face-stop-with-the-effing-applications-book and blogs in general… though when he asked what coffeesoup.com was about, I had to fob it off with ‘just some dumb site’ :S (sorry!! It’s really a cool blog! ;) ). So thus far I am safe :)

On Saturday we headed north to check out this farm up the coast. By farm I mean the type where you pet the cute animals and feed them lots of unappetixing pellets. Not like the farms I’ve been to where they actually have sheep that are shorn a few times, knocked up and fed up, then culled for dog food! BF told me that he had been to a farm before. And I clarified which sort of farm, a or b. Then when we went back he told me that he never actually saw the animals at the farm, they just had lunch in a cafe and got ice cream… *sigh*. Very typical of him, leave out the important details that make ALL the difference. Clearly, having lunch in a cafe NEXT to a farm is not visiting the ACTUAL farm itself…. right?! Anyways, it was heaps of fun, in it’s own cheesy way. The animals were very cute, and came running as soon as they saw us coming by, they were better trained than P.avlov’s dog!

Cute calf!

Mail me (evilangel at hotmail dot com) if you want to be my flickr friend and see more cute baby animals! And the not so cute me ;)
